According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, more than 1.4 million juniors entered the 2015 National Merit Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This served as an initial screen of program entrants. Out of all students who took the test, less then one percent were named semifinalists.
“Tyler Hughes has always been a stand-out student,” Lindenhurst High School guidance counselor John Rossillo said. “He is a student who always goes the extra mile.”
