Lindenhurst School Community Joins in Support of The Fight Against Cancer

The Lindenhurst High School Peer Leaders and the girls varsity field hockey team came together in support of the Christina Renna Foundation

The Lindenhurst High School Peer Leaders and the girls varsity field hockey team came together in support of the Christina Renna Foundation on Sept. 15. Christina, a former student of the Lindenhurst School District, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, and passed away in 2007.

Donning yellow shirts and shoelaces, the color of childhood cancer awareness and the Christina Renna Foundation, the girls played hard in support of the cause. On the sidelines, members of the Peer Leaders group sold baked goods to raise money to help in the foundation’s mission of providing support for those in need of their services.

On Sept. 18, Lindenhurst athletic teams, coaches, administrators, community members along with local and state politicians joined members of the Renna family at the 10th annual Christina Renna Foundation Walk-A-Thon and Blood Drive at Lindenhurst Middle School.

According to the website, www.crf4acure.org, “the Christina Renna Foundation is dedicated to supporting children's cancer research and increasing the levels of awareness and education through the support of cancer groups and outreach programs for the direct support of those in need.”

“We are grateful for all of the support the district has given us over the years,” said RJ Renna, brother to Christina and member of the CRF Board of Trustees. “We have been able to really make a difference through the foundation. This grass roots effort, which began in Lindenhurst has continued to grow and in years to come people are going to be able to look back at all of that progress and say that Lindenhurst played a vital role in that change.”
