Lindenhurst STREAMS Night A Success

Over 400 residents attended the school district's first ever STREAMS night.

From Lindenhurst Schools: Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently held its first STREAMS night in which more than 400 members of the school community came out to engage in activities related to science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, mathematics and the social sciences.

Throughout the evening, students and their families shared the experiences of making, designing and problem-solving. Traveling together to the various Exploratorium Stations, attendees utilized innovation and creativity to build racecars, build structures using sticks and marshmallows, and explore virtual reality among other things. Additionally, the committee, presented families with an opportunity to participate in several design challenge experiences including the construction of a floating boat, the creation of a bracelet using binary code to conceal a message and engineering of a paper airplane that would fly the furthest.

“The evening was made possible by the numerous student volunteers and district staff who contributed their talents running the various challenges, sessions and explorations,” said Dr. Ailene Cavaliere, coordinator, instructional technology and CIO. “We are grateful for their efforts and for the attendees whose enthusiasm for the evening made it a success. We are looking forward to next year’s event already.”
