Lindenhurst Student Receives FutureSmart Scholarship
In grade seven, students at Lindenhurst Middle School study a unit on Money Management as part of the Family Consumer Science curriculum.

In grade seven, students at Lindenhurst Middle School study a unit on Money Management as part of the Family Consumer Science curriculum. Teacher Roseanne Giugliano has utilized the educational website everfi.com in which students take on the role of a small-town mayor and assist the town’s people in making wise fiscal decisions.

Students explore topics including being a responsible consumer, various methods of payment for goods, strategies for saving money, and how to start a business. Students were also granted an opportunity write an essay outlining the skills they’ve developed while participating in the program in hopes of winning a $1,000 FutureSmart scholarship.
The district is proud to congratulate middle school student Katharine Sniffen, who was the only recipient of the scholarship from the state of New York. As a winner, Katharine received a $1,000 college savings gift card that was deposited into the 529 savings plan of her choice.
