Students throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District received a special visit from firefighter Sarah Callahan.

From Syntax: Students throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District received a special visit from firefighter Sarah Callahan, along with several members of the Lindenhurst Volunteer Fire Department as a part of fire prevention month.

Firefighters reviewed with students the components of their uniform and provided them with an overview of what takes place when they respond to a house fire. Additionally, students were reminded to never play with appliances, matches and lighters. Student volunteers practiced Stop, Drop and Roll, demonstrating how to roll back and forth on the ground in the event of any clothing catching fire.

Also addressed, were the importance of testing smoke detectors monthly, changing batteries at least once a year and staying low to the ground. Lastly, students were advised to have a family meeting place outside the home and urged to never hide or return to the house for possessions.
