Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome was the opening message as the Lindenhurst High School Thespian Troupe performed Cabaret, a powerful piece of performance art that sends a strong and worthwhile message that people question those things that challenge their morals. The show is based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Cabaret takes place in Germany prior to the beginning of World War II. At the time, Berlin had become a crossroads of different cultures and ways of life. The play is based on the nightlife at the Kit Kat Klub and the English performer Sally Bowles, played by Kelly Dietz, and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw, played by Jamie Fitzpatrick. Students, both principal roles and ensemble, did extensive character background development in order to create depth in the production.
“A show this challenging can only be performed by a mature, hard-working group of students like we have,” said director John Savastano. “This is a kind, compassionate group.”
