LINDENHURST, NY — Lindenhurst residents may finally be receiving a solution for a long-time flooding issue.

Officials announced Friday that a new water control system will be used to reduce flooding on South 8th Street; the system works by pumping stormwater back into the canal. Trustee Patrick Pichichero said in a press release that the pump is designed to move as much as 11,000 gallons of water per minute.

“This new technology will prevent most street flooding which plagues South 8th Street during an abnormal high tide or in heavy rains," said Pichichero. "The pump, along with check valves that fit into drainage pipes, will prevent water from backing up and flooding streets."
