Man Failed To Bring 12-Year-Old Dog With Open Wound To Vet: SPCA

The dog was found with feces and live maggots on its wound, the SPCA said.

AMITYVILLE, NY - An Amityville man was arrested on Wednesday for neglecting his 12-year-old dog, according to the Suffolk County SCPA.

Mitchell Braithwaite, 58, was charged for failing to provide the necessary veterinary care for his chow, Sandy, the SPCA said.

Sandy's fur was severely matted causing an two-inch open wound on its area to fester, the SPCA said.

The tissue as exposed, causing it to be covered with feces and live maggots, the SPCA said.

The dog was removed by the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter.

Braithwaite is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on September 27, 2019.
