Man Killed In Copiague Hit-And-Run While Lying In Roadway: Police

A man believed to be in his late 30s was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a vehicle that fled, Suffolk police say.

COPIAGUE, NY — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Copiague late Thursday night, according to Suffolk County police.

The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. on Vespucci Avenue, between Dante Avenue and Dixon Avenue, police said.

A man was lying in the roadway when he was struck by a northbound 2011 Honda Pilot, police said.

The driver did not stop and continued northbound before turning left onto Dixon Avenue, police said.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Detectives believe the man was Hispanic and in his late 30s.

Police said the suspect vehicle was later located in Copiague and impounded as evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
