Man Pulled From Great South Bay In Serious Condition: Police

COPIAGUE, NY — A man was hospitalized in serious condition after he lost consciousness while clamming in the Great South Bay off Copiague Thursday evening, Suffolk police said.

Lisandro Figueroa, 48, was clamming near the shore off Tanner Park with his brother and two friends when he lost consciousness and was found floating in the water at about 5:09 p.m., police said.

A person walking by saw Figueroa in the water, entered the bay and pulled him to shore, where CPR was administered and 911 was called, according to police.

Copiague Rescue paramedics continued CPR and provided additional medical treatment after arriving at the scene, police said.

Figueroa was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in serious condition, according to police.

Suffolk County First Squad detectives are investigating the incident.
