Man Stabs Grandmother To Death On Long Island: Police

AMITYVILLE, NY — A man was arrested and charged with stabbing his grandmother to death in Amityville Saturday, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place at 7:30 a.m. on Watkins Terrace.

First Precinct officers responded at 7:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a stabbing at the residence, police said.

Authorities determined that Dwight Clermont, 28, who is without a known address, stabbed his grandmother, Miraccia Leopold, police said. Leopold, 81, who lived at the home, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Clermont was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, police said. He will be held
overnight at the Third Precinct and will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central
Islip, police said.
