Memorial, Service Scheduled In Honor Of Beloved Amityville Nurse

The family of Gresmor Blackman-Douglas has planned a drive-by memorial and a live-stream service for this weekend.

AMITYVILLE, NY — A special drive-by memorial and virtual service will be held this weekend for a beloved nurse from Amityville who died in a car crash on the Southern State Parkway earlier this month. Gresmor Blackman-Douglas, who goes by Jesma, was on her way to work at the ICU unit at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park in Brooklyn when the fatal crash occurred in Hempstead. The 58-year-old had a tremendous impact on the community, earning a posthumous Heroism Award from the Town of Babylon for her commitment to helping others.

Her children, Leston Douglas and Leneshia Douglas, as well as her husband, Leslie Douglas, will be hosting the events to honor Blackman-Douglas while still keeping with social-distancing guidelines amid the coronavirus crisis. First on Saturday, May 16, a drive-by memorial will take place at the church she frequently often on 76 Parkway Avenue in Amityville starting at 4:30 p.m.. For those who cannot attend, flowers can be sent to the family home on 580 Albany Avenue, Amityville, NY 11701.

Then on Sunday, May 17 a service will be live streamed via the Slinger-Hasgill Funeral Home in Amityville between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Guests can stream the service via Zoom. The link will be posted on the Slinger-Hasgil website here.
