Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Car In Copiague

BREAKING: The 18-year-old driver received a summons for violation of learner's permit restriction.

COPIAGUE, NY – A man was struck and killed by a car in Copiague Thursday night, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, 18-year-old Luis Guzman Hernandez was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry west on Sunrise Highway when he struck 52-year-old Constantino Tejada at the intersection of Bethpage Road.

Tejada, who was pushing a shopping cart, was in the roadway when the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. Tejada, of Copiague, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

Hernandez, of Copiague, was not injured and received a summons for violation of learner’s permit restriction, police said.

The investigation is continuing and the Toyota was impounded for a safety check.
