The man who was shot was transported by Amityville Rescue to a local hospital where he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Police are not identifying the man pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives believe the incident was not random. Detectives are investigating whether the dispute was between gang members or related to a drug deal.

Amityville Police confirmed that local schools were placed on temporary lockout this afternoon, until it was deemed there was no imminent threat to the community, police said.

At a press conference, police said the man who was shot was part of a gang but not MS-13, according to Newsday.

The incident promoted school lockouts in both the Amityville and Massapequa school districts.
