LINDENHURST, NY -- Village of Lindenhurst officials are proposing a new law that would make it unlawful for residents to just rent out their pool or yard space.

At a recent board meeting last month, officials presented the proposal which would ban any person who owns a dwelling unit within the village to rent out their pool, hot tub, yard space or sports court to another person.

"In no event may any residential property be rented or used in whole or part for any third party, transient recreational use such as pool or hot tub rentals, party or yard rentals, or sport court rentals," the law reads.

Trustee RJ Renna told Newsday he became concerned after reading about website for private pool rentals and found a listing in nearby Copiague and that the ban on renting yards was to ensure that local homes sold by the village damaged by Superstorm Sandy don't include any additional structures.
