Supportive Sporting in Lindy

Soccer and field hockey teams, as well as Key Club raise money for good causes.

The girls varsity and junior varsity soccer team raised money to fight breast cancer and bring awareness to the devastating disease through the annual “Kicks for Cancer” event kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness month.

To raise money for the cause, students sold food, supportive apparel, 50/50 raffle tickets and encouraged attendees to make a donation

Kicks for Cancer events are held throughout Suffolk County in conjunction with girls high school soccer and continues to be an annual event in Lindenhurst.

However, the soccer team was not the only sports team to show their support for a cause. On Sept. 29, the Lindenhurst High School Key Club and the girls varsity field hockey team came together in support of the Christina Renna Foundation. Renna, a former student of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District, passed away in 2007 after her battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of cancer.

Donning yellow shirts and shoelaces, the color of pediatric cancer awareness and the Christina Renna Foundation, the girls played their hearts out. On the sidelines, members of the Key Club sold baked goods to raise money.

According to the website, www.crf4acure.org, the Christina Renna Foundation is dedicated to supporting children’s cancer research and increasing the levels of awareness and education through the support of cancer groups and outreach programs for the direct support of those in need.
