Tanner Park Beach In Copiague Closed Due To High Bacteria Levels

COPIAGUE, NY — Tanner Park Beach in Copiague has been closed to bathing after testing found bacteria levels above acceptable criteria, Suffolk County health officials said Monday.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services is advising residents not to swim at the beach until further notice.

Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can cause gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott said.

The beach will reopen after additional testing shows bacteria levels have subsided to acceptable levels, according to the county.
