Tell Us What's Wrong With Common Core

We asked readers what they like least about Common Core; share your thoughts on our new open blog.

At recent forums and school board meetings across the state, parents and educators have slammed Common Core.

A total of 45 states, including New York, have adopted the Common Core Standards Initiative, which focus on the subjects of math and English language arts.

From the difficulty and rigor of the work to the effects it is having on both students and teachers, Common Core is huge topic of debate at the moment. With that in mind, we asked readers on our Facebook page what they like least about Common Core.

Here's a few of the responses:

Karen Artz Shanley: What I like least about the Common Core was the way it was implemented by the state. It is too much too fast without adequate training for the teachers. The state should have implemented it in a slower time frame. They now have our kids so confused & crying at night doing their homework.

Erica Nicole: It's not fair for the teachers nor the students. Our children shouldn't have to be so confused and upset over this. Get rid of common core.

Lisa Patto: What I like least about the Common Core you ask??? The whole Common Core...3 to 5 hours of homework, Robo teachers reading from a script, testing, inappropriate lessons, depressing assignments about murder, AK47's, rape, human sacrificing, ETC. The list is endless!!! College and career ready they say??? That's a bunch of BS, the crap they are shoving down our children's throats they will never need for a career. Treating our children as human guinea pigs...The Common Core is rotten to the core End of story...

Joanne Schmidt Delgado: Taking away a successful teachers creativity that they spent years using to enrich our children. When wonderful veteran teachers begin to think about early retirement, it's time to think about how to keep that from happening. As a parent I've heard at least 3 wonderful teachers talk about career change options.

We'd love to hear your take on Common Core or any other school-related topic on our new Lindenhurst School Forum blog.
