Theater Troupe Comes Alive With ‘The Sound Of Music’

The Lindenhurst High School Thespian Troupe recently performed its winter musical.

From Lindenhurst Schools: On Jan. 18 and 19, the Lindenhurst High School Thespian Troupe performed its winter musical with a production of “The Sound of Music” under the guest direction of Levittown teacher Paige Hardison.

The show, based on the 1959 stage musical and the popular 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews, tells the story of Maria (Kyara Dunleavy). The young woman leaves an Austrian convent to care for the seven children of Navy Captain George Von Trapp (Russell Ward), Liesl (Jacqueline Lawrence), Louisa (Sophia Raimondi), Friedrich (Brian Huggins), Kurt (Ryan Rodriguez), Brigitta (Brittany Parsons), Marta (Alexandra Wysocki) and Gretl (Ashley Hanson). Using kindness and patience, Maria taught the Von Trapp family about music, love and how courage and faith can help them overcome hardship. The school’s orchestra, led by director Kevin Pike, along with musical director, Philip Ricciardi, performed familiar tunes such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” with great talent while the stage and lighting crews set the stage for wonderful performances and choreography.
