West Gates and Harding Students Celebrate Holidays Around the World

First and Second Grade Students Learn about World Cultures, Different Holiday Traditions

First and second grade students at West Gates Avenue and Harding Avenue elementary schools took a trip around the world this December to learn about how different countries and cultures celebrate the holidays.

As part of the lesson, students created suitcases and passports in preparation for their “trips.” They learned about different holiday cultural traditions, including dance, decorations, dress and food. The students used what they learned in these lessons to make connections to their own holiday traditions at home.

The lessons were organized through ENL teacher Ms. Rhodes, with help from teachers Ms. Grasso and Ms. Crowley at West Gates and Ms. Mazza at Harding.
