West Gates Students Explore Safety Town

From Lindenhurst Schools: The fifth-grade safety committee club of West Gates Avenue Elementary School recently worked with the school’s physical education department to design an indoor space in which students in grades kindergarten through fifth, learned about the “rules of the road.”
During PE classes, students navigated their way through “safety town” on scooters. With the assistance of the fifth-grade safety monitors, they were required to obey traffic rules such as riding on the correct side of the road, merging in a traffic circle and adhering to one-way and stop signs. “Our safety monitors did a great job in their leadership roles,” said fifth-grade teacher Casey DeNatalie. “We are proud of them as well as all of the students who took part in this activity.”
