Tangney said on the department’s Facebook page:

We do not believe this is a random act of violence and the public is not in danger at this time. We believe this incident was an escalation of a prior situation between two individuals who know each other. This is an unacceptable situation that could have been worse, and street justice will not be tolerated. At this time, the intended victim is uncooperative, and the shooter unidentified. We are actively working to identify the shooter, and we urge these individuals to surrender themselves immediately. We are demanding the cooperation of the community to assist us in stopping this gun violence. If you have any information on the identity or location of these individuals we need you to come forward and help your community. Anyone with information is asked to call (516)-705-7320.
