Long Beach’s Own Billy Crystal Returning To Broadway This Fall, Theater Organization Announces

The “When Harry Met Sally,” “Monsters Inc.” and “Howl’s Moving Castle” actor will star in a one-man show in Manhattan later this year.

LONG BEACH, NY — One of Long Beach’s favorite sons is making his return to the stage this fall, as the Shubert Organization announced Billy Crystal would star in a one-man show titled “860” later this year.

Announced Wednesday, the one-man play will run on a 12-week limited engagement, beginning previews in October. According to the play announcement, the show will focus on the loss of Crystal’s family home, address number 860, in the Los Angeles fires that took place last year.

“I am thrilled to return to Broadway this fall with this challenging new show,” Crystal said in the announcement. “860 was the address of the home we lost in the Palisades fires. We lived there for 46 years. I invite you to come inside 860 and I’ll tell you all the funny and touching things that happened there, not only in my career but to our family. It’s a joyous and heartfelt visit, about how with the love of family and friends and your inner strength, you can get through tough times. I look forward to returning to Broadway and welcoming audiences to 860.”

Crystal wrote the show and will be its lone performer, while Oliver Award-winner Scott Ellis will direct. For Crystal, the return to Broadway comes 22 years after his debut on the great white way; Crystal won a Tony for that performance, in the one-man show “700 Sundays,” which became the highest grossing non-musical in Broadway history during its original run.

While Crystal and Ellis are attached to the project, additional members of the production have not been announced. Also yet to be made public is the theater that will house the production. For Long Islanders interested in buying tickets, information about the sale dates will be published at BillyCrystal860.com.
