LONG BEACH, NY — While a laundry list of subjects including math and music have been branded the “universal language,” two dozen Long Beach High School students celebrated their mastery of different languages April 29, when they were inducted into the World Language Honor Society.
The induction was marked by a ceremony attended by Long Beach administrators, faculty, students and their families, with students taking the language honor society pledge in Italian, Spanish, French and English. There was a special performance by the Long Beach High School Chamber Orchestra and a candle lighting ceremony, which officials said symbolized scholarship, service and cultural appreciation.
“Tonight was a celebration of our students’ dedication, perseverance, and passion for language learning. Each inductee has demonstrated not only academic excellence, but also a genuine appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives,” society advisor Nelly Jimenez said. “It is incredibly rewarding to see them reach this milestone, and I am confident they will continue to use their skills to connect with and positively impact the world around them.”
Also present was district Director of World Language and ENL Dr. Evelyn Danza, who said the event highlighted the importance of “cultural understanding and global communication.”
