LONG BEACH, NY — Results are in for the Long Beach school district's budget and board of education election that took place Tuesday; the district's budget passed by a 715-231 margin and unopposed newcomers Nora Bellsey and Dennis Ryan won seats on the school board.

The $162 million budget carries with it a tax levy increase of 2.2 percent and a $1.7 million transfer to capital to finance the repair of the high school pool. That tax levy increase is below the state tax cap limit, which could have gone as high as 2.65 percent under state calculations.

Meanwhile, elementary students will receive new physical education time and a new world language program under the new budget, district officials say.

Bellsey received 676 votes in the school board election, while Ryan received 640.
