Oceanside Woman Accused Of Stealing $80K In Late Father’s Checks Pleads Not Guilty: Court Records

MINEOLA, NY — An Oceanside woman pleaded not guilty to second-and third-degree grand larceny charges last week after she was accused of pocketing over $80,000 in pension and medicare checks issued to her father after he died in October of 2022, court documents show.

According to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Oceanside resident Francine Dal-Bo is accused of taking $78,157 in pension payments and $4,047 in medicare checks that were meant to go to her father, a Town of Hempstead Highway Department retiree.

Dal-Bo’s father, officials said, had a single life allowance pension that would have stopped paying out upon his death had Dal-Bo reported it. Instead, officials said, Dal-Bo spent almost two years using pension funds to pay off credit card debt and make cash withdrawals. Furthermore, DiNapoli and Donnelly said Dal-Bo “fraudulently endorsed and deposited” medicare checks from the Town of Hempstead, using the money for personal expenses.

“Francine Dal-Bo allegedly sought to exploit her father’s death to unlawfully pocket pension funds he had earned through a career in public service,” DiNapoli said. “My office will continue to work with our partners in law enforcement to protect the pension system and our pensioners from fraud and abuse.”

Court records show that Dal-Bo entered not guilty pleas on June 24 to charges of second-and third-degree grand larceny, with her next court date scheduled for July 6. Her attorney, Robert Schalk, could not be reached for comment Monday.
