Armed Man Fled Officers, Resisted Arrest: Nassau Police

Police say the man was drinking at a train station with a loaded handgun tucked in his waistband.

ISLAND PARK, NY — Nassau County police arrested an armed Valley Stream man Thursday night after they say fled from officers and resisted arrest.

According to police, plain clothes officers were at the Island Park LIRR station at 7:25 p.m. Thursday when they saw Robert Collazo, 26, of Cocharn Place, Valley Stream, with an open container of an alcoholic beverage. The officers approached him, and police say they saw he had a gun in his waistband.

Collazo refused to comply with the officers' commands, police said, and fled on foot. The officers chased him, and police say he violently resisted arrest when he was caught. Police recovered a loaded handgun and a substance believed to be marijuana.

Collazo is charged with second-, third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
