Brooklyn Man Drowns Off Coast of Long Beach

BREAKING: Police have yet to identify the 26-year-old man, who was swimming with a friend.

A 26-year-old Brooklyn man drowned off the coast of Long Beach, the city's police department said Monday night.

According to police, the man was swimming with his friend in the water after 6 p.m., when there were no lifeguards on duty. They were pulled from the water near Riverside Drive and taken by ambulance to the Long Beach Emergency Room. The man was pronounced dead, but his friend was uninjured.

The police have not released the identity of the man yet.

A high rip current risk was in effect at all South Shore beaches on Long Island at the time. That risk will remain high through Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service says.
