The Kiwanis Club of Long Beach will host its third annual Children’s Bicycle Safety Rodeo on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Long Beach Recreation Center basketball courts. With special thanks to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund and Apple Bank of Long Beach for their financial support, the event is presented in partnership with the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), the Long Beach Recreation Center, and the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD).
Designed for elementary school-aged children, the Bicycle Safety Rodeo will provide hands-on instruction in safe bicycle handling using the nationally recognized AAA Bike Rodeo program as a guide. Participants will navigate a supervised skills course while learning essential safety techniques.
Helmets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with LBFD personnel assisting children to ensure proper fit. Local bicycle mechanics such as Long Beach Bicycles and West End Bike Shop will be available to inspect and tune bikes, and the LBPD will offer on-site bicycle registration to help prevent theft or assist in recovery. Children will also enjoy bike and helmet decorating, refreshments, and the opportunity to enter raffles to win one of four brand-new bicycles and other bike safety kits.
