Car Drives Off Atlantic Beach Bulkhead Into Reynolds Channel

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene, where three people managed to get out of the car.

ATLANTIC BEACH, NY — The Long Beach Fire Department helped to rescue the passengers in a car that drove off a bulkhead while fire departments from the Five Towns helped a kayaker in distress Sunday night.

According to the fire department, a call came in at 10:15 p.m. Sunday for a kayaker in distress near the Atlantic Beach Bridge. As they were responding, the Atlantic Beach Rescue chief was flagged down for a car that had driven off a bulkhead into Reynolds Channel in Atlantic Beach.

The LBFD units went to help the car, and members of the Inwood and the Lawrence-Cedarhurst fire departments responded to help the kayaker.

There were three people in the car, and they were able to get themselves out safely before the fire department arrived. No one was injured. The Nassau County Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
