On July 23, Coad was being arrested by LBPD narcotics detectives after he was caught in a heroin drug sale, police said. During the arrest, Coad punched and broke the jaw of a detective, who needed his jaw surgically wired shut, cops said.
Coad was located and arrested in Alabama Friday, police said. He faces charges of first-degree assault, assaulting a police officer, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, and a New York parole violation.

The manhunt was a joint investigation by LBPD, Nassau County Police, U.S. Marshals New York and New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, New York State Police, and the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
“Our Narcotics Task Force is attacking the heroin issue head on. This assault highlights the dangers Police Officers face every day. The group law enforcement efforts in this case were astounding,” said Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney in a statement commending the Long Beach detectives who worked “tirelessly” to track Coad to Alabama.
“Crime in our city is never tolerated, let alone assaulting one of Long Beach’s finest,” added City Council President Scott J. Mandel. “You can run, but you can’t hide. Those who commit crimes in our City will be brought to justice.”
