Councilman Lester Appointed To Fire Commissioner Board

The former school board president was unanimously elected to join the LBFD board at Tuesday's online council meeting.

LONG BEACH, NY – City Council representative Roy Lester was appointed to the city’s board of fire commissioners Tuesday.

The five council members—including Lester—voted unanimously to pass a resolution designating the newly re-elected councilman to the Long Beach Fire Department’s board of fire commissioners during the council’s Jan. 18 meeting held online via Zoom due to COVID-19-related concerns.

Lester is named the City Council Liaison to the board.

Neither Lester nor his fellow council members—President Karen McInnis, Vice President Liz Treston, former council President John Bendo, and newly elected council member Tina Posterli—chose to comment on the appointment during the meeting. Sam Pinto, an LBFD firefighter and paramedic, congratulated Lester on his appointment during the public comments portion of the meeting.

Lester is a former president of the Long Beach Board of Education.
