County Won't Pay Medical Bills For Dog Seriously Injured By Cop Car

Nassau County refuses to help the family since the dog was not leashed at the time of the accident, Newsday said.

LONG BEACH, NY — A Nassau County police officer in a department-issued SUV in Long Beach hit an emotional support dog this month in Long Beach, Newsday reports.

The family has $13,000 in medical bills, but because the boxer was unleashed, the county won't pay, Newsday said.

Daisy suffered various injuries, including a punctured lung and internal bleeding.

The five-year-old pet had two surgeries and may have her leg amputated from the accident.

County Executive Bruce Blakeman told Newsday: "This is a good time [to] remind all dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash."
