Donations Pile Up For Hit-And-Run Victim's Family

ISLAND PARK, NY — The hit-and-run that killed a man in Island Park this week has led to an outpouring from the community.

A GoFundMe page was created by a member of Northwell Health, on behalf of Dodanim Emmanuel Chavez's family.

The 30-year-old Chavez died from the Island Park crash on Monday night. While walking, he was struck by a vehicle on Long Beach Road near Marina Place.

As the GoFundMe page describes:

"He leaves behind his wife, 2 stepsons and a 3-year-old daughter."

The page has received more than $4,500 in donations, as of Thursday afternoon.

"Emmanuel and Laura were recently married and just purchased a new home together," according to the GoFundMe description by Liliana Espinal.

The GoFundMe page and Friendly's Auto and Body in Long Beach are raising money "to help cover mortgage payments and other unforeseen charges Laura may experience in the coming months/year," Espinal wrote.
