Free Surf Outings for Special Needs Children

Surfer’s Way 2012 Free Surf Outings for Special Needs Children Surfer’s Way, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, hosts three free outings for children with special needs each summer.

The 2012 dates are Wednesday, July 18, Wednesday, August 15 and Sunday, September 9 from 9:00am-2:00pm at Riverside Beach in Long Beach, NY.

Each year over 250 children participate in each outing while an enormous number of parents, grandparents, friends and relations applaud on the beach. The outings provide a one-to-one surfing lesson and are an opportunity to engage in surfing for a group of children that is often excluded from any type of sport. Surfing increases coordination skills, provides a healthy outdoors activity, has potential therapeutic benefits, and brings joy to the participating children. The annual nature of Surfer’s Way outings allows these children to continue enjoying the sport as well as provides an opportunity to do something together as a family.

Supervised by founder Elliot Zuckerman the outings are safe and the children surf with skilled specialist instructors on specially designed tandem surfboards. There are also numerous volunteers acting as beach buddies and Surfer’s Way provides lunch and snacks for the entire family.

Surfer’s Way surf outings are a spectacular, heart-warming and action- packed day, and we hope that your organization will provide publicity and the consequential support for this event and all its participants.
