John Daly, City of Long Beach Policeman, Firefighter, Lifeguard, and Naval Reservist passed away in April 2007.  We have established a scholarship in John’s memory and will carry on the tradition of the John Daly One Mile Ocean Swim. The swim will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 9:00 AM.

The John Daly Scholarship will be awarded to graduating senior who is a member of the Long Beach Patrol. The awardee must emulate the patrol in the area of professionalism, service, and ethics. The candidate must write an essay and be in need of financial assistance. Scholarships are also given to young swimmers of the Long Beach Tiger Sharks and to children in need of swimming lessons.

Donations to help us run this event and award the scholarships may be sent to Tom Daly, 50 Armour St., Long Beach, NY 11561 with a check made out to the John Daly Scholarship Fund. The swim this year is sanctioned by the Metropolitan LMSC for US Masters. There will be USMA Wetsuit & Non Wetsuit categories, as well as Open Wetsuit  &  Open Non Wetsuit, along with a category for the Long Beach Lifeguards.  Applications for the swim may be obtained at the Long Beach Recreation Center, The Long Beach Patrol Lifeguard Headquarters,  the City of Long Beach web site., www.LongBeachNY.org (go to recreation and then to races) and also www.metroswim.org.  (go the competition link )

Non USMasters swimmers (open category) must fill out the one day event insurance coverage  Applications must be received by August 16th .

 There is NO DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION.
