Get HOOKED on Some FUNKtional Art!
Unique Creation by Local Artist has Given People a Chance to Be 'Hung Up'!
As New Yorkers, we think we’ve seen just about EVERYTHING! But trust me, this local Long Islander (a South Shore homie) has created a very UNIQUE, and VERY CREATIVE, IMAGINATIVE and DIFFERENT way to HANG things up!
Long Island artist, Lisa L Cangemi, thought up this idea began back in 2006. Cangemi felt inspired to create the unusual and unique FUNKtional Art. Coming from a family that was in the shoe-manufacting business for several generations, Cangemi was given some ‘extra new unused heels’ from her father. She said, ‘My dad had many extra heels not used in the production of shoe manufacturing, so he said..., If you find something to do with them, do it!.’
Hooked on the Heels began immediately. Cangemi began designing and creating the most unique HOOKS ever to be found! She had the idea patented, and started selling at local fairs, first one being at Arts in the Plaza in Long Beach.

These magnificent HEEL HOOKS have also been available over the past 10 years in some shops in San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York, but MOSTLY, Cangemi centers her selling on Long Island.
Cangemi is a native to the SOUTH SHORE of Long Island. She is a graduate from the School of Visual Arts (NYC) , has her own Graphic Design agency (C&C Graphic Design - www.ccgraphics.net), is a winner of over 4 dozen graphic design awards, over 2 dozen fine art awards, and a dozen photography awards nationally. She teached art, design & photography classes at various colleges in New York State, as well as local painting classes in Oceanside, Valley Stream and Long Beach area.

Each week during the summer, Cangemi is located with her selling space at Arts in the Plaza, at Kennedy Plaza in Long Beach. Arts in the Plaza is a Long Beach city event, that takes place between May and October, every Saturday from 10am to 3pm. There are many art vendors who create their own arts & crafts.
"The most valuable thing is to support local business and local artists", Cangemi states. The Farmers Market also is open at the same time each week, with local farmers, and food products made on Long Island.
The energy does not stop there! Each week, at Arts in the Plaza, live music is performed by local musicians, and singers.
