All guns must be operable. No licensed guns, BB guns, air pistols, or replicas will be accepted.

Authorities reminded anyone participating that guns must be transported in the trunk of a car. When turning them in, guns must be unloaded and put in a plastic or paper bag or in a shoe box.

All guns may be turned in anonymously.

“The Gun Buyback Program, using asset forfeiture dollars, has taken nearly 3,500 guns off our streets before they fell into the wrong hands,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.

“By removing these weapons from our neighborhoods, we eliminate the possibility of them being used in crimes or even accidental shootings in the home,” said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
