The Hearts Of The Arts: Pamela’s Potions—All Natural Bath, Body & Skin Care
The Heart Of the Arts is a series of articles offering an intimate glimpse at our talented Arts In The Plaza artists.
I’ve always wondered how people made their own natural soaps, fragrances, and face/body scrubs by scratch. I’ve looked at the ingredients at my shampoo bottles and didn’t feel as though there was one ingredient I could easily find myself. When I came across Pamela’s booth, I was intrigued by the simple ingredients inside her products. It seemed as if it was by magic that she was able to make such heavenly smelling and invigorating products from so little. This curiosity and awe sparked the need to learn more about her concoctions and their origin.
Pamela first started making her merchandise in 2005. It started as an accident in the kitchen, she spilled some olive oil making dinner one night and instead of using a sponge to clean it up, she ended up using her hand. She then wiped it on her arm and went about her business. But hours later, she noticed that the part of her arm she wiped olive oil on was “really soft.” This little accident then blossomed into her journey to making her potions.
She is compelled to create because she was buying a lot of water based lotions that were doing “absolutely nothing.” She decided to run with the olive oil incident and started researching on her own. She found out that olive oil was the closest to what we naturally produce as humans while grape-seed and avocado oil are skin nourishing vitamins. She started making them as gifts for her friends and family but they urged her to start making money from it.

Her goal was to make everyday skin care products that were affordable. All her merchandise have “recognizable ingredients which are all natural,” and she wanted her prices to stay low because she personally wouldn’t buy a shampoo bottle that was “fifty dollars and over.” She states, “If you cannot pronounce it, do not eat it or put it on you body—don’t even sniff it.” All of her products are also gluten, soy and mostly nut & dairy free which makes them allergen friendly.
Overtime, she has experimented with different body oils and then blossomed into making shampoo, manicure and pedicure products. She recently discovered that dill seeds were natural nail strengthener and conditioner and that elderberries are for wrinkle prevention. With so much to discover and experiment with, it has been a long and slow process to build up to the different products she has today. She is continuously working on new products such as a facial wash and a cream deodorant.
