Hempstead Town Extends Fee Waivers For Sandy Reconstruction
Those still recovering from the hurricane can have their building fees waived, as well as fees to have important documents replaced.

The Town of Hempstead announced this week that it will be extending its building fee waiver for residents who are repairing and rebuilding their homes due to Hurricane Sandy. The waivers will be in effect through June 30, 2019.
In addition to waiving Building Department fees, the town will also continue to waive fees for certain documents to be replaced by the Town Clerk's office.
“We remain committed to making the rebuilding and recovery process for our residents a priority while also providing struggling homeowners with some relief to reconstruct their homes,” said Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney. “Although it’s been six years since Hurricane Sandy, our residents still need our assistance, and Hempstead Town will continue to offer a lending hand.”

In the Building Department, all town fees will continue to be waived for Sandy-related structural repairs that conform to original dimensions and specifications, commonly referred to as “in-kind” repairs and replacement. In addition, through June 30, 2019, structural work on buildings will be permitted between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any Saturday or Sunday, in addition to the regular construction hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents of incorporated villages should check requirements of their local villages.
“As a lifelong resident of Island Park and ex-chief of the Island Park Fire Department, I witnessed firsthand Sandy’s devastation of local houses, businesses and properties,” said Councilman Anthony D’Esposito. “America’s largest township is committed to helping residents rebuild homes and livelihoods that were devastated by Superstorm Sandy.”
