Give Kids a Smile Day
1500 Long Island Youngsters to Attend
** More Than 100 Long beach First Graders
Impacted by Sandy to Receive Free Dental Care**
Henry Schein Inc. and the Nassau County Dental
Society will host the 11th annual Give Kids a Smile Day at the
Cradle of Aviation Museum located on Museum Row on Charles Lindbergh Blvd
in Garden City at 11am on Friday, February 1st.
1500 Long Island youngsters will take part,
including more than one hundred first graders from Long Beach who will be given
free dental exams. Many of the Long Beach children were displaced from their
homes by Superstorm Sandy, some students homes were destroyed by the storm.
Many of the Dentists taking part have seen their offices either destroyed or
severely damaged by Sandy.
The Give Kids a Smile Day program, which began in 2003, as a way for dentists to reach out to their
communities to provide oral health services to underserved children and raise
awareness of the critical need for children’s oral healthcare.
· By age six
around half American children have already experienced tooth decay because most
of them have never even sat in a dentist’s chair.
· Nationwide
children aged five to seven years old with untreated t dental issues miss more
than seven million school hours each year.
· Children
who do not receive proper dental care are at risk for pain, potential
infection, difficulty eating, speaking and learning.
· Tooth decay
is the single most chronic childhood disease in this country and while wholly
preventable, is on the rise among our youngest and poorest citizens.
