Here's How Much Long Beach Candidates Raised For 2020
It takes a lot of money to run for office. See how much each candidate raised to try to win.
LONG BEACH, NY — Running for office isn't cheap. Candidates on the ballot in 2020 raised thousands of dollars to try to win their seats.
We looked at the latest data available from the state and federal governments to see how much candidates that appeared on the ballot on Long Beach spent. The most recent data available is form mid October for both. But it shows that, even weeks before the election, candidates were spending big to try to win.
4th Congressional District
Incumbent Democrat Kathleen Rice was challenged by Republican John Tuman for the seat. And Rice raised more than ten times what Tuman did. The Federal Election Commission considers funds raised from Jan. 1, 2019 as contributing to the 2020 race. The most recent data is from Oct. 14.

As of Thursday, Rice still holds a comfortable lead over Tuman, 147,425 votes to Tuman's 134,225.

Senate District 9
Democratic Incumbent Todd Kaminsky was challenged by Republican Victoria Johnson for the Senate seat. Even without the thousands of absentee ballots yet to be counted, Kaminsky holds a wide lead over Johnson, 68,911 to 60,310.
Kaminsky also raised much, much more money that Johnson did. The latest data from the state is from Oct. 5.

Assembly District 20
In the 20th AD, incumbent Republican Melissa "Missy" Miller was being challenged by Democrat Gregory Marks. At the end of election night, Miller had a very wide lead over Marks, 32,576 to 17,975.
Marks both out-raised and outspent Miller by a wide margin.
