We want to thank not just two of the Best Baseball Players from East Haven, but two of the Greatest guys. Our good friends Gary Wayne Flowers and Vincent Guglietti, respectively the best East Haven born and raised pitcher and hitter EVER, joined a group of East Haven players for two awesome hours of intensive and enjoyable baseball learning. Both Gary and Vinny are shining examples of humble kids who have truly made themselves into remarkable athlete of Nationwide renown. They both have a genuine love for baseball, and find reward in helping kids enjoy the game they have mastered. There is a fairly good chance that both these outstanding baseball players will in fact play professional baseball, and the kids that spent the day with them at Memorial Field will point to the picture we post and remember that East Haven produces great players, and Great People. We can’t thank Mr. Flowers and Mr. Guglietti enough for taking time out of their schedules to volunteer with East Haven baseball players. As an aside, Vinny Guglietti immediately headed off to play Summer Ball with the Plymouth Pilgrims where he went 4 for 5 with two home runs and six RBI in his first game. Congrats to him!
MEANWHILE, UP ON THE HILL, IT'S THE SAME OLD SAME OLD

East Haven High School once again was “one and done” in the State CIAC Tournament (as previously touched upon in last month’s column), disappointingly losing at home against a team they should have beaten, 5-4. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The game of baseball remains in flux in East Haven as it has for as long as I can remember and as far into the future as I can see.
While some promising steps have been made by new president Deb Bracacle at the “official” Little League in East Haven, it is patently obvious that baseball at almost all levels, from T ball to High School, are either unorganized, poorly run or shockingly run. Without a common purpose, without an organized mission, baseball in East Haven sails on aimlessly as a rudderless ship lost at sea. Unaccountable, unsupervised and answerable to no one. Does it find deeper water or rocky shoals?
The only “official” Little League in Town will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Little League with a full day of family fun, with a parade, flag raising, the ever dependable appearance of politicians and with them speeches, happy kids, colorful flags, and scrumptious food. Saturday promises to be a warm sunny day, why not spend it by the shore and support the celebration of the only truly democratically run and competitively honest little league in town. Where our kids learn competitive baseball and umpires are like Unicorns & Rainbows.
And, so it goes…
