LI Community Honored For Reducing Traffic Crashes During Pandemic

The city of Long Beach earned the Silver Award for AAA's annual traffic safety program.

LONG BEACH, NY — The city of Long Beach has been recognized for its efforts at safety in the streets.

AAA's Silver Award goes to Long Beach for finding ways during the pandemic to use non-traditional ways aimed at protecting the public.

"The city was cited for focusing on combating the rise in aggressive, crash-causing behavior, as well as adapting to a decrease in morning commuters," AAA said in a statement.

The changes in 2020 led to a significant reduction in traffic crashes, pedestrian injuries and bike injuries, the agency said.

"We are pleased to be recognized with a Silver Award in AAA's Annual Traffic Safety Program for our efforts to reduce crashes and traffic-related injuries," the Long Beach Police Department said on its Facebook page.
