Long Beach Cancels Year's Last City Council Meeting, Outgoing Councilor Cries Foul

It would have been Eileen Goggin's last chance to address the public.

The Long Bach City Council, citing no new business to discuss, canceled the year's last meeting, which was scheduled for Tuesday. But outgoing Councilwoman Eileen Goggin wanted the meeting held.

Goggin won a seat as a Nassau County District Court judge in November, and Tuesday would have been her last meeting. Goggin and and fellow Concilwoman Anissa Moore voted to have the meeting, but the other three members of the board voted to cancel it, Newsday reported.

According to Newsday, Goggin wanted to have the meeting because it was the last time she would be able to address the public as a councilwoman. She wanted to take the opportunity to talk about giving benefits to part-time workers, and also to thank those who had supported her.
