The Long Beach City Council Meets Tuesday, See What’s On The Agenda Here

LONG BEACH, NY — The Long Beach City Council is set to meet Tuesday for the first meeting of the month of August, with a twelve-item agenda that features resolutions for new electric vehicle charging stations, a $26 million bond issuance and renovations to the Long Beach Police Department’s records room.

Electric Vehicle Charging

Long Beach residents could see some new electric vehicle charging stations within the city limits after the city received a pair of grants to fund their installation.

Per city council documents, the city received a $296,080 grant from New York’s department of environmental conservation and a $183,000 grant from PSEG Long Island to fund the installation of eight charging stations —four “Level 2” charging stations and four “fast charging” ports. City council records say that the ports will be along the southeast section of Kennedy Plaza.

Per city records, neither of the grants have any local matching attached. The $183,000 charging ports, the city said, will not require any borrowing in advance to pay for, while the $296,080 will require “advance financing and working capital via borrowing,” which the city said will “be made available pursuant to the bond ordinance presented” Tuesday.

These charging stations will be part of items 5, 6 and 7 on Tuesday night’s agenda, with the city council voting on whether or not to accept each grant and then voting to authorize City Manager Dan Creighton to purchase the charging stations.

$26 Million Bond Issuance

As for the bond ordinance, the city’s capital project financing plan is back on the agenda with a slightly reduced total — $26,467,000, down from a $26,566,000 total that was listed back in July.

The bond issuance will be subject to a public hearing before a vote takes place. While the bonds would be used to finance capital projects around the city, city council documents say the city expects $9,004,566 in state and federal aid to supplement the bond funds.

The city council has also published an itemized list of what projects would be funded through bonds if the issuance is approved, with $4 million being allocated for the water purification plant, $3.5 million allocated for the replacement of city buses, $2.9 million allocated toward road construction and $1.16 million for the rehabilitation of the ice rink. Police Records Room Renovation

Also on the agenda Tuesday is the renovation of Long Beach’s police records room, specifically the entrance doors.

According to the city council, Long Beach DPW issued a request for proposals and got back seven bids, selecting a bid from Lawrence-based Jlaid LLC. That bid, the city said, will run at a price of $249,960, and will cover a renovation that installs ballistic glass in the records room for security purposes.
