Long Beach Dream, Harlem Wizards Build Unity Through Competition
The Long Beach Dream Team gave the professional basketball players of the Harlem Wizards a tough competition during the tournament Nov. 1.
LONG BEACH, NY - From Long Beach Public Schools: Staff members from the Long Beach Public Schools, along with other special guests including Senator Todd Kaminsky, took on the pros during a friendly basketball tournament held on Nov. 17. They posed a challenging match for the Harlem Wizards on the home court of Long Beach High School, while cheers from spectators rang from the sidelines.
Hosted by the East School PTA, the game brought excitement, connection and community spirit to the participants and fans. The group of local players, dubbed the Long Beach Dream Team, came close to the professional athletes with 68 points to the Wizards’ 86.
The Wizards inspired students in Long Beach leading up to the big event. On Oct. 27, Harlem Wizards team member Patric Massey visited East School, Long Beach Middle School and Long Beach High School. He emphasized sportsmanship, determination and effort as he joined students in drills and other activities.
