After more than a year of planning and work, the Town of Hempstead and the City of Long Beach on Sunday christened the new dock that will give emergency crews easier access to waters to perform rescues.

The dock, which is now part of Long Beach's Indiana Street fire station, will allow the city's first responders to access Reynolds Channel much more quickly than before.

According to the fire department, the dock will not only be utilized by Long Beach, but by first responders from across the South Shore.
