Barrier Island Firefighters Rescue Stranded Boaters
A boat with four people was stranded on a sand bar near the Loop Parkway drawbridge on Sunday.

Fire departments on the Barrier Island were busy over the Memorial Day weekend, working together to rescue boaters who were stranded near the Loop Parkway drawbridge.
A call came in at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday for a boat that struck a sandbar near the bridge in Point Lookout. Four passengers on the boat were stranded.
Chief Jared Siegelman of the Point Lookout Lido Fire Deparment led the operation, with help from the Long Beach Fire Department, the Freeport Fire Department and the Town of Hempstead Bay Constables responded. All four passengers were safely removed from the boat with no injuries.
