Long Beach Hosts Annual Biathlon Sunday

The swimming and running events are open to all ages.

LONG BEACH, NY — Whether you're a top-tier athlete or just want to practice endurance activities, the 41st annual Long Beach biathlon is a good place to be.

More than 300 competitors are expected to run the three miles on the beach and swim 300 yards in the ocean Sunday, the city of Long Beach said on its website.

There are three different course measurements based on age. Children ages 7- 12 will have a half-mile run and a 50-yeard shallow swim. For young teens, they will have a one-mile run and 150-yard swim, while adults get access to the full route.

Awards will be given for the top 5 men and women in multiple age categories from 16-19 to 60 plus. Additionally, all children ages 7 to 15 will receive awards for participating.

For those who haven't registered by mail, they can sign-up in person at the Long Beach Recreation Department, 700 Magnolia Boulevard, or apply online. Fees vary depending upon the age group ($10-$30).

Same-day registration and check-in are from 7:45 a.m to 8:30 a.m. on National Boulevard at the beach.

The children and the young teen race start at 8:30 a.m. The adult portion begins at 9 a.m.
